How to Build a Privacy Fence

Is there anything better than enjoying the sunshine in your garden in the summer? If you’re looking forward to sun-drenched days but you crave privacy when you’re outside, a privacy fence could be just what you need to create a serene, secluded oasis. Here is some advice on what a privacy fence is, and how you can construct one at home:

What is a privacy fence?

As you can probably guess from the name, a privacy fence is designed to give you more privacy when you’re out catching rays or tending to your patio plants in the backyard. Even if you get on famously with your neighbors, it’s nice to be able to retreat to the garden and enjoy quality time with family or a good book without the fear of prying eyes. A privacy fence usually measures at least 3 feet tall in a front yard and 6-8 feet in a back yard. Privacy fences are a stylish feature of modern backyard designs that enable you to relax, unwind, and chill out in your own private outdoor space.

Building a privacy fence

Privacy fences are usually solid, and they are most commonly made from wood. However, at Fence Masters we offer a variety of different materials including vinyl, PVC and composite fencing. If you’re building your own privacy fence, you’ll need to plan in advance to find the ideal location for the fence to facilitate a seamless, stress-free transformation. Make sure you check property lines carefully before erecting a fence between your property and that of a neighbor. Consult expert advice if you’re unsure about which materials to use or how to build a sturdy fence that will stand the test of time.

When you’re ready to build, make sure your posts are spaced evenly and don’t leave gaps greater than 8 feet to prevent the wood from sagging. Make sure you have enough posts to support the fencing and that the foundations are sufficiently deep. Check the stability of your fence panels and posts before you sign off on the job. It’s better to make running repairs and modifications at this stage than to uncover problems later on.
