What we repair
Common Damage We Fix Across Ottawa
From spring windstorms to winter freeze-thaw, Ottawa weather tests every outdoor structure. Here is what we repair most often.
Wind & Storm Damage
High winds can snap posts, lift panels and tear gates off hinges. We secure the structure, replace failed components and rebuild to withstand the next storm.
Snow Load & Ice Buildup
Heavy Ottawa snow pushes fences off alignment and snaps horizontal rails. We reset posts below the frost line and reinforce rails to carry seasonal loads.
Rot, Mold & Moisture Damage
Trapped moisture rots boards and corrodes hardware. We remove compromised material, improve drainage and match replacement boards for a seamless repair.
Deck & Railing Safety Issues
Loose railings, soft deck boards and wobbly stairs are hazards. We inspect to Ontario Building Code standards and repair or replace only what is needed.
Decision guide
Repair or Replace?
Not sure whether to patch the damage or start fresh? Use this quick checklist.
Usually Repair
- Less than one third of the structure is affected
- Posts are still solid and below frost depth
- Damage is from a single event (storm, vehicle, fallen tree)
Usually Replace
- More than a third of boards or posts need work
- Posts lift, wobble or show rot at ground level
- Ongoing patch repairs no longer match in colour or style

Repair or Replace? Watch Our Guide
Our president walks through what to look for when deciding whether a damaged fence can be repaired or should be replaced.

When a fence is damaged, the first question most homeowners ask is: can this be fixed, or do I need a whole new fence? The answer depends on three things: the age of the fence, the extent of the damage, and the condition of the posts.
If the posts are still solid, straight, and set below the frost line, almost any damage above ground can be repaired. Broken boards, cracked rails, torn pickets, and loose gates are all straightforward fixes. We remove the damaged pieces, match the materials as closely as possible, and reinstall everything so the repair blends in.
However, if posts are rotting at ground level, leaning because of frost heave, or more than a third of the structure is compromised, replacement is usually the smarter long-term investment. Patching a fence with failing posts means you will be repairing it again in a year or two.
Another thing to consider is appearance. New boards next to badly weathered old ones can look mismatched. In those cases, replacing a larger section or the full fence gives a cleaner, more uniform result.
Storm damage is a common reason we are called for repairs. Wind, falling branches, and snow load can snap rails and push fences off alignment. If the posts held up, we can often restore the fence quickly and cost-effectively.
The best way to know for sure is to have us take a look. We will give you an honest recommendation and a fixed quote so you can decide between repair and replacement with confidence.
